Breez x Spark: A New Way to Build on Bitcoin
Breez and Spark team up with a new Breez SDK implementation built on Spark's Bitcoin-native Layer 2 infrastructure.
Bitcoin is transitioning from digital gold into a global currency used by millions. As adoption grows, applications increasingly seek to leverage its peer-to-peer payment capabilities. Breez specializes in services that enable self-custodial Lightning payments, while Spark operates as a Bitcoin-native Layer 2 designed for payments and settlement.
Partnership Announcement
The collaboration introduces a fresh Breez SDK implementation operating on Spark's infrastructure. This version delivers comprehensive Lightning functionality including programming language bindings, LNURL support, Lightning addresses, and mobile notifications.
Key Benefits
Operating on Spark provides developers with a Bitcoin-native experience without requiring bridges or external consensus mechanisms. The SDK enables various use cases: content streaming payments, social app monetization, gaming currencies, cross-border transfers, and AI micro-transactions.
Leadership Perspectives
Roy Sheinfeld, Breez CEO, emphasized the need to "bring Bitcoin into apps people use every day."
Kevin Hurley, Spark creator, described the partnership as representing "fast, open" Bitcoin embedded in mainstream applications.
David Marcus, Lightspark co-founder and CEO, expressed enthusiasm about potential developer innovations.
Implementation Details
Breez will serve as a Spark Service Provider alongside Lightspark, facilitating payments and ecosystem growth. Full release is planned for later in 2025, with technical specifications forthcoming.
