What Is Gauge Voting?

Each pool has an associated "gauge": a smart contract that distributes freshly minted tokens to liquidity providers. How It Works

Locking and Voting Power

In Curve's implementation, users lock CRV tokens for a period ranging from one week to four years. Locking 1,000 CRV for four years yields 1,000 veCRV (vote-escrowed CRV). Shorter lock periods yield proportionally less voting power: locking for two years grants 500 veCRV, and locking for one year grants 250 veCRV. The veCRV balance decays linearly toward zero as the lock approaches expiry, incentivizing users to re-lock for maximum influence.

veCRV is non-transferable. Holders receive three benefits: the ability to vote on gauge weights, a share of protocol trading fees (50% of all Curve trading fees flow to veCRV holders), and a boost of up to 2.5x on CRV farming rewards when providing liquidity.

Weekly Gauge Weight Voting

Gauge weights determine what fraction of weekly CRV emissions each pool receives. The process follows a weekly cycle:

The Curve Wars

Convex Finance
